Palisades Amusement Park
A Brief History Of Palisades Amusement Park
In 1898, a picnic grove located in the boroughs of Fort Lee and Cliffside Park, NJ grew into Palisades Amusement Park. Over the years, this park earned the reputation of being the greatest amusement park ever.
In 1910 the Park was purchased by brothers Nicholas and Joseph Schenck. Having an eye for the newly formed motion picture industry the Schenck's contributed largely to its success by filming major motion pictures within the park. In 1913 the world's largest saltwater pool was built on top of the Palisades overlooking the NY skyline and enjoyed by millions over the years.

Ironically, the Schenck brothers sold the park in 1934 to two brothers Irving and Jack Rosenthal. The Rosenthal's constructed an outdoor stage that brought in the biggest some of the biggest names in the entertainment business to perform live shows.
Over the years, Palisades Amusement Park had two major fires. Attendance was on the decline and the park and the park forever closed its gates in 1971.
